Introduction: Celebrity Obessions

These days it is very easy to learn all the intimate details of a star’s life. Once contained to the celebrity rags and weeklies, now famous internet sites, blogs (such as the infamous perezhilton.com), and even specials on CNN and FOX news all report on celebrities; what their doing, what their wearing, who their doing, etc. But how far is too far in this game of celebrity obsession? Are the paparazzi simply a small nuisance to the lives of some of the most affluent and powerful people in the world, or are they actually wreaking havoc in the lives of many. Should we blame the paparazzi for feeding the public’s obsession, or is our culture’s absolute fascination with celebrity that needs to change?

This blog hopes to analyze the reasons for the public’s obsession with celebrity, the impact that the media’s portrayal and coverage of celebrity has on our society, and discuss the ethical questions raised by our media’s coverage of celebrities.
